Q:
Dear Joy, Hi, I
am a single mom of a 5 year old little
boy. He just started school in Sep. But he
is having a hard time for learning the
sounds of letter, also what the letters are
and how to write the letters. Do you have
any ides on how at home I can help him to
learn this? He
is also have a hard time learning how to
match the number's with the pitcher that he
has been asked to do. The school what him
tested to be put into a smaller class that
he can have one on one time with the
teacher. Do you think that is a good thing
to do to a 5 year that is just staring out?
Could you please help me? I have been trying
all thing to him to like to learn please
help. Thank you for your time. D."
A: Dear
D., I'm sorry to hear about your son
situation. However, it's not the end
of the world yet. It's OK to let him
take a test and go to smaller class that is
more appropriate for him. When he was
a little younger, did you teach him at home
at all? Did he attend preschool? Did
he know how to count from 1 to 10? Did
he get a chance to play letters or numbers
when he was younger? A lot of these got to do with how
much he had to learn & expose to before he
goes to school.
You do want the best for your son, don't
you? Then please spend more time to teach
him at home as well as talking to his
teachers about him at school. Taking a test
is the best way to find out where he is
about & they can placed him into the right
class for his level. You don't want your
son to be behind & try to keep up with his
classmate. Once he's getting better, you
can always ask the school to let him move up
when he is ready & qualified.
Best wishes to you & your son. Thank you
for visiting our Web site.
