What Not to Say About Someone's Appearance
Don’t say: “You look good for your age.”
Why: Anything with a caveat like this is rude. It's saying, "You look great―compared with other old people. It's amazing you have all your own teeth."
Instead say: “You look great.”

This season, joined by rotating guest judges including Victoria Beckham, Mary J. Blige, Joe Jonas, Neil Patrick Harris, Shania Twain and Kristin Chenoweth, the American Idol judges visited Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles and Orlando in their quest to find performers worthy of the "Golden Ticket" to Hollywood. Emmy Award-winning talk show host Ellen DeGeneres will join American Idol as the new fourth judge sitting alongside Simon, Randy and Kara. As the new judge, Ellen will offer her own unique perspective to the contestants throughout the competition.

Kristin Chenoweth to Guest-Judge American Idol

American Idol is going to get Wicked good: Kristin Chenoweth is the latest star to join the rotating panel of celebrity guest judges, People reports.
The former Pushing Daisies star will sit alongside Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi at the Season 9 auditions in Orlando, the magazine says.

Paula Abdul: "I've Decided Not to Return to Idol"

by Natalie Finn

Paula Abdul's American Idol journey has ended.
Less than a week after E! News confirmed that Kara DioGuardi will be returning to the judges' table, Abdul wrote on Twitter Tuesday that she will not be back for the show's ninth season.

"With sadness in my heart, I've decided not to return to #IDOL. I'll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all...being a part of a show that I helped from day1become an international phenomenon," read two tweets posted shortly after 7:30 p.m.

Fox confirmed the news shortly afterward.

"What I want to say most, is how much I appreciate the undying support and enormous love that you have showered upon me," Abdul continued. "It truly has been breathtaking, especially over the past month.

"I do without any doubt have the BEST fans in the entire world and I love you all."

Kris Allen takes the 'American Idol' title

by LYNN ELBER

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Kris Allen's smooth vocals and boy-next-door image propelled him to "American Idol" victory Wednesday, turning the theatrical powerhouse Adam Lambert into the most unlikely of also-rans.
"I'm sorry, I don't even know what to feel right now. This is crazy," said a stunned Allen, 23, of Conway, Ark.
As host Ryan Seacrest said in announcing the result of the viewer vote, "The underdog, the dark horse, comes back and wins the nation over."
Lambert's commanding vocal range and stage presence - and the judges' adoration of him - at times turned "Idol" into "The Adam Lambert Show," with the other contestants mere guests. But it turned out that "Idol" viewers could embrace a gifted performer like Lambert, one who sported black nail polish and bold self-assurance, only to a point.
Simon Cowell tipped his hat to both contestants Wednesday.

American Idol Episode Recap: Top 4 Revealed

by Erin Fox

One more Idol will bid us farewell tonight, but only after we see performances from Season 5 winner Taylor Hicks, Natalie Cole and Rat-Pack mentor Jamie Foxx.
Hey Idol fans! Hope you enjoyed last night's show as much as I did! Just a heads up, I'll be on vacation next week, but the dynamic duo of Mickey O'Connor and Adam Bryant will be filling in for me. I had to bribe them with the promise of chocolate-covered macadamia nuts from my Hawaiian getaway, but they finally agreed to do it (high maintenance!).
After a cool black and white, slow-mo Ford music video, the Top 5 launch into "I've Got Rhythm," and they're not lip-synching! It's fast and crazy — but enjoyable nonetheless.

Before Adam Lambert was an 'Idol'

by Thomas Conner

"American Idol" frontrunner Adam Lambert has shown a flair for the dramatic in his performances on the show each week. Judging from the clips available on YouTube, it's old hat for the song-and-dance man.

As mentioned during the auditions, Lambert understudied the role of Fiyero in the Los Angeles production of the hit musical "Wicked."

And sure enough, someone has posted a clip of him in it singing the song "Dancing Through Life":
Given how many former contestants and winners end up on Broadway, Lambert's decision to audition for the show just might have been a very shrewd career move.

SAFE BET - ADAM ODDS-ON TO WIN 'IDOL'

by Thomas Conner

T'S official: Adam Lambert is the odds-on favorite to be the next "American Idol."

Oddsmakers from Latin America to London for the first time this week have made the show-stopping crooner such a prohibitive favorite to win this year's "Idol" that a $1 bet on him will pay only 80 cents.

The talent show has seen some heavy favorites in the past but nothing quite like Lambert -- who is running away from the field with seven other performers still in the running.

Lambert has been out of the top spot only once so far in competition -- when he stumbled during country music week -- and briefly gave the betting lead to Danny Gokey.

American Idol Episode Recap: Top 8 Revealed

By ERIN FOX, TV GUIDE

After another evening of lackluster performances by many of our Idol hopefuls, will one more contestant be sent home, or will the judges have mercy on the lowest ranked singer? We'll find out after performances from Lady Gaga and last season's American Idol winner, David Cook.

Hey everyone! I was thinking about something today: I don't know about you guys, but I'd be pretty pissed if I scored tickets to a "live" taping of an Idol results show and all I got were two pre-taped performances, a pre-taped product placement video and a really poorly lip synched group number. Amiright? It makes me appreciate the fact that I'm recapping from home in my pajamas while eating some mint chip ice cream.

American Idol - Top 13 perform Michael Jackson

news from curlio.com

2009-03-10 22:50:59 - Tonight, the Top 13 on American Idol performed the songs of Michael Jackson. The decision to put 13 through seems to have been a good one as no one delivered a bad performance. That's right - all of the performances were at least good, if not great.

Ryan Seacrest asks Randy Jackson what the contestants have to do tonight. Randy says they need to have a great performance every time. Kara DioGuardi says she is going to be harder on the Top 13 as the judges now need to make sure they are the best. Paula Abdul tells the hopefuls not to be afraid of the stage. Simon Cowell tells them to remember their words, and don't get swallowed by the stage. Simon then tells us that two people will go home tomorrow.

Judges make surprise announcement at the end of the wild card round

By Bret Federigan, MSN TV

Eight wild card contestants returned to the "American Idol" stage Thursday night to compete for what they thought were the remaining three slots in the final 12.

But the judges, led by Simon Cowell, pulled off a surprise at the end of the performance round by announcing an additional final contestant, expanding the pool of finalists to 13 singers.

Deliberating quickly, the judges selected teenager Jasmine Murray, Utah native Megan Joy Corkrey, dueling piano player Matt Giraud and college a cappella sensation Anoop Desai through to the final round. They join Adam Lambert, Alexis Grace, Allison Iraheta, Danny Gokey, Jorge Nuńez, Kris Allen, Lil Rounds, Michael Sarver and Scott MacIntyre. Unlike the four finalists announced Thursday night, these nine finalists were determined by vote of "Idol" viewers. The 13 finalists begin the final leg of their quest for "Idol" glory next Tuesday in what should be a significantly competitive competition. More about that later.

American Idol - The Phenomenon Continues

AMERICAN IDOL returns for the much-anticipated eighth season on January 13. Hosted by Ryan Seacrest, the No. 1 hit series empowers contestants and viewers to share their voice in deciding who will be America's next singing superstar. This season promises to be one of the best yet with new talent, a new judge and plenty of surprises along the way.

Every year, tens of thousands of hopefuls from across the nation audition for a shot at stardom. The show's judges – Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and recent addition Kara DioGuardi - traveled to East Rutherford, NJ; Jacksonville, FL; Kansas City, MO; Louisville, KY; Phoenix, AZ; Salt Lake City, UT; San Francisco, CA; and San Juan, Puerto Rico, in search of the next American Idol. They winnow down the competitors to a select group of semifinalists who sing their hearts out each week for a studio audience and television viewers.

The judges have their say after every performance, but it's the viewing public that determines who will advance to the next round of competition and who will go home. Voting via telephone and text-messaging begins immediately after each performance show, and the results are announced during the following night's broadcast.

Emmy Award-winning AMERICAN IDOL is created and executive-produced by Simon Fuller, founder of 19 Entertainment. The series is executive-produced by Cecile Frot-Coutaz, CEO, FremantleMedia North America, Inc.; and Ken Warwick, Executive Producer, FremantleMedia North America, Inc.

Paula Abdul Thinks Four 'Idol' Judges is a Mistake--Does This Mean She's On Her Way Out?

Remember when word of American Idol adding a fourth judge first went out? The first things we were thinking that Kara DioGuardi was, ultimately, out to replace Paula Abdul. At the end of the seventh season, Paula wasn't exactly in tip top shape, to say the least. Plus, there's the fact that Kara was introduced in a pretty sneaky manner—in the middle of the auditions.

And then our fears were quelled—or, for those who cannot stand Paula anymore, furthered—when it became clear that Kara wasn't out to replace anyone, but would rather act as a fourth gear of sorts. She did manage to toss the dynamic between Paula, Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson. Critics generally liked her, hailing her entry as a burst of much-needed fresh air.

I personally like her informed, smart comments, although the way she does it is still up in the air—singing a song to Bikini Girl, anyone?

By now, we've probably forgotten what we thought when we first heard of Kara—that Paula is on her way out. There's still evidence that we might want that to happen: there's Paula, mumbling through the top 36, and personally I get more exasperated with each offing. And then Paula suddenly says adding a fourth judge to the show was a mistake.

Wait a minute—she said that?
