Sassy Pink Peppers - www.sassypinkpeppers.com -

The Emotional Roller Coaster of Divorce - By Pauline H. Tesler, M.A., J.D., & Peggy Thompson, Ph.D. - Authors of Collaborative Divorce - Divorce is an emotional task unlike any other in modern society, and different people experience it in different ways. While some individuals go through nearly all of the extreme emotional states that we describe here, others have an easier time getting through this period and will maneuver these choppy waters with more skill. The important thing to remember is that all the emotions we discuss are normal, but while some are readily acknowledged by the people experiencing them, others are so uncomfortable that it's difficult even to admit they exist. The wide array of emotional states that many people experience during the early stages of the divorce process can diminish their capacity to think clearly, impair their judgment, and make rational decision making difficult or impossible.

Financial Guide Through a Divorce By Kelly Kennedy - Going through a divorce by all means is not easy.  Even coming to the realization that you want a divorce or your partner wants to separate, can all be overwhelming.  That’s just the beginning; divorces can get ugly when it comes to dividing all joint obligations.  However it needs to be done, so here are some pointers to help solve any problems that may arise.

Mom Advice Column - Tips for Single Moms - Life After Divorce - monthly advice from our contributor Jennifer Snyder at TimeOfYourLifeAfterDivorce.com and SelfCareForWomen.net - Tips for a new mom to things that matter to all Single Mom as life after divorce.  Jennifer Snyder is a personal coach and workshop leader for divorced women who cannot wait to proclaim their own power. She can be reached at 919.414.7197, Email: Time-of-Your-Life@nc.rr.com.

Angels We Have Heard and Seen - Contributed by Jennifer Snyder - My favorite part of the holiday season is its steady reminder of angels. Christmas cards reflect angelic gatherings in star-filled night skies. Ancient carols tell of angels spreading great joy, or watching over shepherds and sleeping children. Decorative angels are prominently displayed on neighbors’ doors; swathed in gold and surrounded by a sea of fragrant greenery.

The Genius of Your Inner Wisdom - Contributed by Jennifer Snyder - Stop everything you’re doing for a moment…Erase all of those racing thoughts and fragmented to-do lists from your mind. Take a nice, deep breath… and another. Feel your heart rate slowing down.  Now, whisper to yourself, “What do I most need in this moment?” Feel your excitement and hopefulness rise at the prospect that you’re finally focusing on your own needs. The notion almost brings goose bumps to your skin, doesn’t it?

Back-to-School Lessons and Supplies for Mom - By Jennifer Snyder - Each year, by early August, discount stores across the country prominently display back- to-school supplies for children of all ages. It is an exciting time to be a student and, as long as one can navigate shopping carts down crowded aisles and find required items, the ritual can be a happy one for their parents.

Rebuilding: Being Authentically “You” - By Jennifer Snyder -  I once read a fascinating, but all too realistic, story about a woman who opened her closet door and out tumbled various pieces of sporting equipment and memorabilia. While these possessions represented the last decade of her life, she didn’t realize until putting them all away that she felt no connection to anything in her closet. You see, this poor woman had put aside her own interests for the hobbies of a long line of significant others. Standing before her newly straightened shelves, she recalled relationships with Partner A in the water skis, Partner B in the bicycle helmet, and Partner C with a paintball gun. She asked herself, “How could I have given up so much of myself so that nothing in my closet reflects my own interests?”

Choosing Family - By Jennifer Snyder - “Call it a clan, call it a network, call it a tribe, call it a family. Whatever you call it, whoever you are, you need one.” - Jane Howard Earlier this month I stumbled upon this quote by Jane Howard and it has stayed with me. Women going through separation and divorce need support. They need a tribe or a safety net of people to put them back on their feet or lift them up.  Do you remember the gymnastic endeavor where individuals line up around a big piece of fabric and hold the edges then lift together, sending the person standing in the middle of the cloth high into the air? I think this is an excellent analogy for the kind of support that enables us to build a life after divorce.

Rebuilding: Proclaim Your Power! - By Jennifer Snyder -  This is the mantra I’ve been exclaiming since I began coaching and facilitating workshops for separated and divorced women. These three words are written in every email and letter that leaves my office, and expressed verbally to every woman whose path I cross. Susan Cowsill can be heard singing, “Nothing can stop me now, and it never could anyhow…” on the website’s introduction.

How to Turn Your Life Around with Powerful Thoughts - By Jennifer Snyder - I hate to admit it now, but after my divorce, I spent more than one Sunday afternoon in bed playing “Uber-Damsel in Distress”. Growing older and wiser may result in a plethora of gray hair, but am I ever glad that those days are over. A script similar to my own dramatic whining will follow later in this article. This isn’t the first commentary I have written about acknowledging one’s power, but this is the first article I’ve penned with a film and scientific data to support my motivational claims.

10 Ways to Spring Forward - By Jennifer Snyder - The whole notion of setting my clock ahead an hour each spring usually leaves me feeling a little resentful. An hour lost; don’t they know what I might have accomplished with an extra sixty minutes of work, or a little more sleep? This year, however, was different. Anxious to leave winter behind, I didn’t focus on the loss of an hour but took delight in the promise of warmer temperatures, and even contemplated how my coaching clients could use this season to “spring forward”.

Divorce Mediation
Everyone has heard horror stories about divorce, involving huge legal bills, court battles, seething resentment, and emotional scars for all involved. But divorce, while difficult, doesn't have to be such a wretched affair. Divorce mediation offers separating couples the chance to work with a neutral third party -- the mediator -- to resolve differences and find solutions. Mediation usually beats divorcing in court, because it's quicker, less expensive and easier on the participants (especially the kids). It can also help divorcing parents learn how to communicate and compromise with each other -- skills they'll need to raise their children separately.

Child Custody and Visitation
When parents separate or divorce, the term "custody" often serves as shorthand for "who gets the children" under the divorce decree or judgment. In 20 states, custody is split into two types: physical custody and legal custody. Physical custody refers to the responsibility of taking care of the children, while legal custody involves making decisions that affect their interests (such as medical, educational and religious decisions). In states that don't distinguish between physical and legal custody, the term "custody" implies both types of responsibilities.

Child Support
Child support is an emotional subject. Parents who are supposed to receive it on behalf of their children often do not. Parents who are supposed to pay it often cannot, or choose not to for a variety of reasons that are not legally recognized. It is the children who suffer the most when child support levels are inadequate or obligations are not met. Therefore, the trend in all states is to increase child support levels and the ways child support obligations can be enforced.
