Affording Things in an Expensive Season of Life

I’ve been so busy lately, and I’ve felt like life has been so expensive.  I’ve had 3 ER co-pays, gone through what I thought was alot of food in just a little bit of time, had the gas in my van get used up before I even realized it, and more, much much more.  Even with all of that, I’ve wanted to take my kids places and do special things with them, but it just hasn’t been in my budget to do so.

We did find some ways to afford things though.  We had a yard sale and decided we’d use the profits for going out to eat.  My mom generously gifted us a pool pass so we can go swimming all summer long without having to pay $20 each time we go to the pool.  Today, we’re going to the store to return a couple gifts that we received that were duplicates, and I’ll let the kids each pick out a special something with the money we get from doing that.

Sometimes I feel poor, but I know that I’m not.  We live comfortably.  We’re very blessed.  We have all of our needs and many of our wants met.  We can’t always afford everything we want, but that’s okay.  My kids need to learn that they can’t always have what they want anyway (and I could use a refresher course in that lesson too sometimes).
