"While barbeques are a lot of fun, cleaning the grills is not."
While barbeques are a lot of fun, cleaning the grills is not. Cleaning grills can be a very mucky and tedious task. The charcoal from the fire refuses to budge and the lard and meat pieces seem to be glued to the griller. This is why most of us will turn to chemical laden and very potent cleaners. While there these cleaners are effective indeed, they are also very expensive and of course the fact that they are full of potent chemicals is not heartening either.
So below are a few safer grill cleaning options that will make grill cleaning easier and also greener:
- Baking soda water paste – This one works very well if time is not of essence. You need to make a thick paste of water and baking soda and apply it to the grill. The paste needs to stay on the grill overnight or till it is hard once more. Take a thick brush and remove the hardened paste from the grill and simple rinse the grill with some soapy water. The baking soda erodes all the grime and its brushes off easily. The grill lines can be completely cleaned after the wash and you have a disinfected and clean grill again.
- Washing soda milk wash – Here you need to soak the grill for a few hours. Simply mix two large tablespoons of washing soda with a two large cups of milk. Do warm the milk up for better results. Once the washing soda is mixed well into the milk, pour in a large pan. Soak the grill in this liquid for a few hours. When you pull the grill out, it will be clean of muck and a simple rinse is all that you will need in order to get a clean grill.
- Laundry detergent and lemon – This is a quick way to clean your grill. While this is a quick way to clean the grill, it does involve some amount of scrubbing. You will need to scrub the grill with halves of lemon. Use the inside and the peel also to scrub as much as you can. Once the scrubbing is over, dip the grill in some water and laundry detergent mix. Keep it soaked for an hour or so and them scrub again before rinsing with warm water. You may need to scrub a few times in order to ensure that all the particles have been removed from the grill. Again while this is a quick clean method, it does involve a lot more scrubbing.
Cleaning the grill is very important and is an activity that you must undertake each time you cook something on the grill. If you avoid cleaning the grill and decide to cook on it again after a few days, you may be faced with infections festered from the last cooking leftovers. If you keep a wet towel to wipe the grill while you are cooking on it, this also prevents muck build up and will make your cleaning process much less tedious.
