Motherhood is a full time job. There are no vacations, no quitting and no shrugging of responsibilities. In all this it comes as no surprise that mothers rarely find any time for themselves. Right from exercising to taking care of your body to even having a cup of coffee with your friends, everything takes a back seat. The problem with such a lifestyle is that it can get very stressful and sooner or later will effect you rather negatively.

Making time for yourself is rather important and the tips below will help a busy mom to achieve this goal:

  • Short time slots – Most mothers will look for a free hour or so in order to plan something for themselves, but such a long time slot is rarely available, and this means postponing the self care. Instead of long time slots steal shorter moments. A 15 minutes long bath with a massages for your legs and arms will give you the energy to go on. Read a short story if you get a half hour break while baby is napping. Or call a friend if you have 10 minutes to yourself or sit back with a nice cup of coffee or herbal tea and enjoy a bit of a TV show. Do not let go of the shorter time slots in the hope of gaining a long one.
  • Schedule a ‘Me’ time – In caring for others moms often tend to forget that they need care too. So while many moms go about scheduling a time to do laundry, a time to cook, a time for the kids, a time to clean, etc, they forget to schedule a time for themselves. Whether once a week or once a month, do schedule a time for yourself. You can have a babysitter come in while you go out shopping or for lunch with friends or do any other activity that helps you relax and feel good. Remember, everyone needs a break and you must get on too if you want to keep your sanity.
  • Enjoy adult interaction – While mothers always love their kids, this does not mean that they should be deprived of adult interaction. Do not under-estimate the value of adult conversations and peer interactions. Baby talk will not refresh your mind and you need to talk to another adult in order to enjoy a rejuvenating and relaxing conversation. Right from friends in the real world to friends on the virtual world, tap on anyone who you feel can offer a captivating conversation to you.

Mothers will often feel guilty if they pamper themselves since they feel they need to play mothers all the time. Nothing could be further from the truth. Being a mother is a huge responsibility and like all other tasks one needs a break from this one too. Making some time for themselves will keep moms away from depressions and help them gain that extra energy that will make them take care of the kids better and also keep the atmosphere in the house pleasant.
