Recycle and Save

Recycle and SaveEveryday we hear about the environment, the ozone layer getting eroded, and so many species added to the extinct list. And while all of us will comment on how bad this is for the planet, few will walk that extra mile to ensure that we leave a greener world for the future generation.

If there is going to be any hope for mother earth, all of us have to pitch in whatever way possible. Recycling is one way of ensuring that we lighten our carbon footprint, and feel good about it, but and guess what, it is also a great way to save money.

Let’s take a look at how we can recycle and save money as well as our planet.

  • Clothes – We may not realize it but we spend a significant percentage of our earnings on clothing. Buying new clothes is definitely expensive and worse still affects the earth in a bad way. However, if we learn to recycle our clothes this will save us both money and help us adopt a green lifestyle too. There are stores where one can buy recycled clothes and of course using hand me downs for kids works well too. You could share clothes with friends and exchange clothes for kids with them too. Getting full use of the garment before you discard it is the main aim here.
  • Save paper - Right from saving the wrapping paper to re-wrap gifts again to preserving cardboard boxes to reuse again to even sharing books, adopt it all in order to save paper. Millions of trees are cut down each year to make paper and this means that by saving paper you can save the planet too. Saving on paper will help you to save money too and you will be surprised at how often you can reuse paper before finally throwing it away.
  • Bottles – Bottles can easily be reused for various kinds of storage so the next time you are planning to throw away those bottles, rethink. In case you have too many bottles and don’t know what to do with them, take them back to the store and in most cases you will be given some money back for returning the bottle. Not only will you save on the cost of the beverage but also ensure that the company does not need to manufacture more bottles and instead can simply re-use these ones.
  • Fix – Right from electronic devices to furniture, everything can be fixed. So instead of throwing out stuff, try and get it repaired as far as possible. This helps to lower your cost of having to buy a new item and also ensures that you do not deepen your carbon footprint. So the next time an appliance goes kaput, try to get it fixed rather than throwing it away and getting a new one.

Recycling is definitely great for the planet but it also works wonders in helping us save money. Keep the tips listed above in mind and you will glad to have helped the family budget as well as Mother Earth.
