Motherhood is not for the faint hearted. Moms are made of steel it seems, for these ladies are able to survive on very few hours of sleep and yet ensure that the kids are catered too and the house cared for. While the initial period of having a baby can seem like a whirlwind, life soon settles down into a smoother pattern. This is when single moms can shift a part of the focus towards their own needs and actually consider stepping back into the commercial arena.
While many of us presume that single moms will not be good at their jobs since their focus is still on the kids, nothing could be further from the truth. Mothers make great career women because motherhood has taught them lessons that no college course ever could.

• Prioritize – Everything is important but some things are more important that others. So, while filing the papers is important, converting the client and getting in the business is more important. If you do the former and sacrifice the latter, the business is sure to be in trouble. Moms know the art of prioritizing instinctively. Knowing how to get the more important task done first is the backbone of success in the commercial arena and this is why mothers fare very well here.
• Multi-tasking – Mothers seem to be super heroes with several powers and many arms. Their multi-tasking abilities cannot be overlooked. In the commercial arena, multitasking is a very strong weapon. Those who can talk to the client on the phone and simultaneously work on the excel presentation, will fare much better that those who can do only one of these jobs at one time. Again, here we find that our moms have a clear advantage.
• Heavy workloads – Single mothers are known to be able to handle great work load and sometimes even on a short sleep pattern that goes on for months. The ability to handle huge work load is a big advantage in the commercial set up. In most jobs, the work load tends to flow from a heavy to a light one and then back to heavy. Performing well when the work seems overwhelming is very important for the success of a business.
Mothers are great in the career fields and there is no denying this. So, if you are a mom wanting to go back into the commercial arena, begin your job search and soon you will find that everything that you learnt as a mom is the best education you got. Your career will thrive on the lessons that motherhood taught you. Of course arming yourself with a good education is also important. So, in case you feel that your present education standard is not high enough, it will work well to pursue a line of study that will help you in your job search and consequently in bagging the best job for you.
