There was a time when tattoos were restricted to the sailors and only girls got their ear lobes pierced. However, today we know that tattoos are very popular with a lot of people, and body piercing is no longer the niche of any one gender. While both these body arts tend to look very cool they do demand after care, if one is to enjoy them through a long period of time.
Some tips below on after care for tattoos and piercings:
- Cleanliness – For a few days after getting the piercing or tattoo done, you will need to maintain a high level of cleanliness. The main reason for this is to avoid infections. So it is important to clean that area with an antiseptic that is alcohol based. Some antiseptic lotion will work wonders in keeping the region free from infection. While using soap may not be a good idea for the first few days, since it can dry the region and make it itchy, cleaning with a cream based wet wipe is very effective.
- No friction – Rubbing, itching and other similar frictions can cause intense pain in your tattoo and piecing areas. It is important therefore to keep the region well protected from rubs and frictions. In fact as the tattoo and the piercing heal, it tends to get a bit itchy and therefore lotions come in handy. Itching it at this stage can make the area raw and not only lead to a lot of pain but also slow down the healing process drastically.
- No water – Both piercings and tattoos have to be kept dry until they heal. This is why if you have a bath it is important to cover these regions so that they are not exposed to water. Water tends to cause infections and the wetness often leads to puss and other similar problems. If in case you do wet the region by mistake, simply dabbing dry with a soft cloth will undo the damage.
- Vitamin E – One thing that can make the piecing and the tattoo heal fast is vitamin E. It will help to apply some vitamin E on the said region. Mixing the vitamin with some Aloe Vera helps keep the area well moisturized and therefore less prone to dryness. Since both tattoos and piercings are relate to the superficial skin area, it is important to keep the skin in the region well nourished and vitamin E is the best way to go about it.
Overlooking these basic after care routines can mess up your tattoos and piercings and also lead to some serious infection. Of course it is also very important that you get the piercings and tattoos done from a qualified and certified professional and make sure that all the equipment used for these arts is clean and sanitized. Since work is done with needles, it is paramount that extreme caution needs to be given in order to prevent transmitted diseases.
