- Keep clean- Warm clothes are rarely washed as frequently as your summer cotton wear. These garments are usually made of wool or leather and therefore cannot be washed on a daily basis. This is why it is important that we keep our warm clothing clean as much as possible. In case of stains or muck, it will help to remove it immediately by cleaning off the patch affected instead of the entire garment.
- Wash gently – Sooner or later you will need to clean your warm clothes no matter how careful you are about keeping them clean. Warm garments should be washed with a gentle soap that is designed for these clothes. If the clothes are washed in the washer, make sure you follow the instructions for specific washer and dryer setting. It is also important to use softeners when cleaning your woolens since these garments will become very rough if you wash them with ordinary detergents.
- Dry properly - Warm garments demand proper drying. A higher temperature will damage the fibers, and the clothes will lose their shape and become useless. So if you wash sweaters at home, do not wring them, do not drip dry them, instead dry them by laying them on a flat surface. For jackets, which cannot be dried in the dryer, it is best to dry them on a hanger so that their shape is retained. Warm clothes will often lose their shape quickly and this is the reason why it is important to dry them with extra care.
When you do pull your warm clothes out of storage, sun them out properly. This eliminates the stale smell due to storing, it also kills any mites. Keep the tips above listed in mind when wearing warm clothes daily.
